Vintage Fair :)

What an exciting day in Bath today - an amaaazing Vintage Fair in the Guildhall! I was sooooo excited, I went with a dear friend and only managed to take two photos....and only one of them is worth showing here!! What a wally!

To be honest, this picture does not do the Fair justice at all! (And you don't need me to tell you that really do you?!!)
It was full of vintage clothes and bags and crockery and jewelry and material and buttons and scarves and..... wow! It was great :)

My friend, the enigmatic Mrs C (as she likes to be known!) and I had such an exhausting (and hilarious) time rooting through the garments and trying some on that afterwards we had to go for a slice of cake -

I'm embarrassed to say it, but mine was the ENORMOUS black forest gateaux! And just in case you don't realise the immense size of the beast, check out the image below!!

Obviously, I couldn't manage it all.

Actually, yeah, it turned out that I could!!!

Anyway, I managed to rootle through the garments and find this lurverly wrap dress. Rather pleased if I do say so myself :D

And further excitement, I found these three lovely bits of material and some lace.

Am already dreaming up the crochet projects to use these beauties!

We love vintage!

Granny square delight! (2)

Amazing! I actually managed to find time to make this weeks Granny Square! Wow!

I really like this one. The colour combination works beautifully and the pattern has a slightly delicate look to it.

I have just realised that in my last post I talked about my Granny Square blanket and showed you the colour scheme but did not tell you what the yarns were. So for those of you interested, I'm using Debbie Bliss Rialto DK yarn in:
  • Moss 10
  • Burnt Orange 43
  • Gold 45
  • Tangerine 56
  • Banana 57
  • Grass 58
  • Claret 63
I love the combination of these shades. The Banana really lifts whatever combination it is put in, where the Moss gives the Granny Square a more heavier look.

My favourite? Has to be the Burnt Orange. No, the Claret. Oooh, maybe the Tangerine? Mmmm, all of them??? They are so soft too....must go touch them now...

...although, where's my crochet top? I MUST finish it!!!

'Til next time x

Granny square delight!

So, I thought I'd finally catch you all up with my Granny Square blanket, much mentioned but never seen!

I decided in the New Year that I wanted to create a Granny Square blanket for us to have at home and hopefully be delightful enough to be a new family heirloom that my children fight over owning in years to come!

It took me a while to decide on the colour scheme I wanted and after dismissing a blue pallet for fear of it looking cold, I eventually settled on an Autumnal feel with the colours of leaves in mind. I felt it would be warming and ever so cosy to be underneath.

The colours chosen, now for the squares...

I received a fabulous book for Christmas called '200 Crochet Blocks for Blankets, Throws and Afghans' by Jan Eaton. It contains 200 Granny square designs, some of them repeated as she shows different colour schemes that could be used.
So, after not being able to choose any one design I preferred the most, I eventually decided that I'd like to make lots of different squares which had the colour scheme throughout.

So after working non-stop throughout January I currently have...
24 squares! Not enough for a blanket though...

My plan is to attempt to make one a week and see where we end up by the end of the year. I'm hoping that my Blog will spur me on...mmm...fingers crossed!

I do have some favourites already. Look at these ones -

This last one has a slightly raised flower in the centre. Really charming.

This project will also need to be properly blocked as if you look closely in the picture of all of them, their sizes are not all regular so they'll need pinning out before they are connected together. Another challenge having never done any blocking before.

My daughter got a little excited about the 'blanket' and thought she should give it a go for cosiness!! Love it :)

A thumbs up me thinks!

So now on to making this weeks square. Watch this space and I'll attempt to find a smidgen of time later.

Spring? Early Summer? A blip in the weather to lul us into a false sense? Mmmm?? We'll see...

Wow! Sorry to have been away for so long but time has just been running away from me recently.

Hasn't the weather just been marvellous - just seen a forecast for next week though...don't look!!

I've just got back from a great weekend away in Dartmouth with my three sisters. Not a bit of crochet in sight, only lots of shopping, food, wine, music, and laughter. It was fabulous.

Dartmouth was celebrating its annual music festival and everywhere we went there was live music, be it on a stage, in a garden, on the street, in cafes and restaurants and in one instance actually in a shop! Combine that with the gorgeous weather we have had this weekend and it was definitely a weekend to remember. And I haven't even begun to tell you all about my journey there and back!

I didn't have the car this weekend so one of my sisters and I travelled down to Paignton on the train, then took the steam train to Kingswear and then the car ferry across to Dartmouth. Fantastic! The return journey involved a 1 1/2 hour boat cruise up the River Dart to Totnes then the train back from there. It was truly relaxing and felt slightly decadent as we just had to sit and be ferried from place to place. Loved it and would definitely do it again! In fact we all decided that we should make our sister weekends a regular annual event! Can't wait...

And then back to reality... helped mow the lawn on my return...crochet party tomorrow evening...and a crochet top two thirds complete...come on, I can do it!

ps we saw a band play called Company B. Check them out they are amazing!

pps forgot to say that I used my new bag. Very agreeable!

A slight hiccup!

Well, last week didn't go quite according to plan! Last Wednesday's crochet party that I had been particularly excited about - remember the placemats!! - well, I had to cancel last minute as my eldest son decided that I'd have far more fun at the local Accident and Emergency getting his head glued where he'd cracked it open on the window sill after an altercation with his brother!! Boys eh?!!

So, the placemats are to be rearranged - I'll fill you in on those another time then.

Last Friday was much better though, no trip to A and E so a successful crochet party instead...

Very productive ladies. Well done everyone. I still get a fantastic buzz from everyone's creations over the course of the evening.

What with the cancelled party and the Bank Holiday weekend I managed to catch up on some of my WIPs! Yay :)

My crochet handbag -

The picture doesn't quite reflect it, but it is a shoulder bag and is only awaiting a fabulous lining, (check out the picture below!) and some lovely dry consistent weather in order to show it off! Sorry about it being on it's side - I could blame the camera but actually that is entirely operator handling error, ie me!

The colour of that lining is amazing. It's a definite bag to shout 'Hello, look at me!'

Then I was able to begin work on my long awaited top. It has taken me ages to find the right yarn for this project but I love this one. I'm using King Cole Bamboo Cotton shade 527, a sort of petrol colour. I bought a vintage pattern from an etsy site and this is it so far...

It will eventually be a beautiful tunic with short sleeves. something for us all to look forward to over the next couple of weeks!

Well, short but sweet this time I'm afraid, I have a little person expecting to be collected from Pre-School in about 13 minutes EEK! Gotta run.....

Happy crocheting xx
